In other news, all our new stock is completely unpacked and out on the floor. This year we have some really different and beautiful pieces including a range of ceramic vases and plates from South Africa, oil burners, hand cut alabaster bowls from Egypt, framed vintage Cuba cloths from Ghana, Moroccan glasses, large silver plated trays from India, gorgeous stainless steel lanterns, French Provincial stoneware candlesticks, Chinese bowl and tea sets and some beautiful rattan and split bamboo place mats. Coupled with our usual favourites - crystal selinite tea light holders, hands of Buddha, old Indian deity statues and all your favourite jewellery items, you’re sure to find a special gift here. This year we also have more stocking stuffers than ever before, including a new range of scented soaps from Australian manufacturer Tilley’s at only $2 per bar, and an assortment of premium incenses in sticks and cones ranging from $2 to $9, all beautifully packaged and with a range of different holders to match.
Due to popular demand, we are also maintaining our informal Gift Registry. The idea is that you can come in and pick out something for yourself that you'd love to receive as a gift. You can then send your significant other, offspring or parents in to buy it for you, instead of relying on the usual range of hints, threats and innuendo. Sure, you can always exchange an unwanted gift, but why not let them get it right the first time? This way you won’t be disappointed when receive that 19th century tongue scraper instead of the silver and emerald earrings you REALLY wanted.
So that you can get a head start on your Christmas shopping, we’re holding our Christmas shopping night on Thursday 8th December, extending our usual 7pm closure until 9pm for your convenience. As always, there will be exclusive offers available on the night, so drop in and pick up a special piece at a bargain price or spend over $100 on the night to receive a free gift – just remember to mention this newsletter when you come in!
One last news item – this year, Kashgar are helping to support Twenty10, a wonderful not-for-profit organisation based in Newtown, which (amongst other things) supports GLBTQI youth who are homeless. We can only imagine how hard it must be to live rough over the festive season, without the love of family and friends, food or even basic amenities. Twenty10 makes sure these kids have what they need during this time - essentials like food and toiletries, but also the knowledge that someone out there cares. And to help them help the kids, Kashgar and friends are organising a raffle for three hampers, all of the items donated by generous individuals and companies, with the proceeds from the raffle going directly to Twenty10 as a cash donation. Kashgar is popping a gift voucher worth $30 into each hamper, plus a little sample bag of soaps and incenses. Google have also very kindly come to the party with a range of goodies including USB thumb drives, beach towels and USB webcams. If you would like to make a donation to the hampers, or simply buy a ticket to be in the winning of one, you can do so by popping in to our Bondi Junction store before Friday 2nd December. All tickets are $1 each. Alternatively, come along to the draw, to be held on Sunday 4th December at 6pm at the Queens Hotel at 167 Enmore Road, Enmore. We would love to see you there!
And finally, in the spirit of the season, I bring you our latest pick of unsuitable Christmas gift ideas: the Gingerdead Men Cookie, a site that shows you how to make your own reindeer and elf poop snacks, some of the creepiest dolls you’ll ever see outside of your own nightmares, doggy doo doo Christmas tree ornaments, and the baby tree costume. And if you haven’t seen it before, you may also wish to read up on our Christmas Shopping Survival Guide - just a little something we've put together to help you get through the silly season.
Finally, from all of us here at Kashgar, we would like to wish you and your loved ones a very happy festive season, full of cheer, yummy food and further interest rate reductions. And thank you for your support in what has again been a very interesting year for us all. See you in 2012, drive carefully and stay safe!
