A vey rare version of the tribal Nepalese ancestor figure depicting an armed soldier, in loincloth and jewellery, standing at attention. It is likely that the man was a Ghurka soldier in the British army, a very prestigious position to hold then and now. Lime pigment on eyes. Hardwood, early 20th Century, Middle Hills region of Nepal. Some weathering and insect depredation on the back. Mounted on a black metal base.
