The Patachitra style of painting can be traced back to the 8th century AD and is exclusive to the 'Chitrakar' caste of painters who live and practice their hereditary art in three villages in all of India. Each family owns a sketchbook handed down from generation to generation. Considered heirlooms, they are worshiped along with the family gods.
