Yixing Teapot

Yixing teapots (pronounced yesh-ing), also known as purple clay ware, (in spite of the fact that they can be light to dark brown or even red in colour), are created using a very special clay found only in one region of China.

A teapot made from Yixing clay enhances the flavour of any tea, which is why it is so valued by tea drinkers all over the world. Yixing teapots should never be cleaned with detergent, but only rinsed after use, and will continue to enhance the flavour of all teas as they age. As a result, all Yixing teapots appreciate in value over time.

The Queen of England is the largest private collector of Yixing teapots in the world, with several of her older pieces valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars. In China, regular exhibitions are held for Yixing collectors.
