This is a piece of antique tribal jewellery right out of Pakistan history. Hand made from very high grade silver, this piece was designed to ornament the front of a man's shirt.
It consists of three panels joined together with heavy twisted silver, set with faceted glass "gemstones" typical of the regions, with a final pendant, actually designed to double as a nail cleaner.
The entire piece shows wear markings consistent with its age (late 19th or early 20th century) and would be perfectly at home in a museum display case. Collected by my father, Bernie Heaphy, on one of his earliest trips to the Swat Valley in Pakistan.
Length 30 cm (11.75 in)
Width 4.3 cm (1.6 in)
Length of ornament 8 cm (3,25 in)
