From the Lalibela region of northern Ethiopia, this is a large, hand painted triptych designed originally to sit on top of a processional staff. The images are of the Virgin Mary and Child, with accompanying saints.
This is a vintage piece, approximately 40 years old. Hand cast using the lost wax method of casting in white metal.
Metal triptychs are difficult to find, and large ones especially so. The only triptychs currently being made are wooden. Genuinely old pieces are impossible to find and are never released for sale.
Measurements: height 27 cm (10.5"), width when closed 12 cm (4.75), width when opened 17 cm (6.75").
