Original cotton ikat textile, Uzbekistan. Made in three panels which have been stitched together, it has five colours: cream, pink, red, purple and yellow. Fully backed and lined with cotton in paisley and the more traditional rose patterned fabric, edged with a dark red cotton border. The textile is stitched to its backing fabric in a grid pattern, creating a slightly quilted effect.
A classic example of this kind of workmanship and probably used as a bed cover or as a cover for seating.
This textile dates from the early 20th century and shows signs of wear, including some staining and patching (one patch shown in the photograph).
