These bold lozenge-shaped ornaments (gonzukor gondschuk) were worn on the chest or much lower over the abdomen. Tekke, from Turkmenistan. Early 20th century. Low grade or no silver content.
Our diamond shaped ornament features typical Tekke decoration consisting of raised and engraved bands and panels of either 24k gold or brass, applied via the traditional method of fire gilding. Several table cut carnelian stones complete the decoration.
An original piece collected in Afghanistan by Bernard heaphy, founder of Kashgar, in the 1980’s.
