  • Naga Antique Shell Necklace

A nice example of antique Himalayan Naga jewellery, this necklace is made up of shell cut from the giant marine gastropod Turbinella sp (sourced from the Bay of Bengal), cowrie shells and ceramic beads on cotton cord. Shells are greatly valued by the tribes of the Himalayas because of the great distance they have to travel from the sea. Mid - Late 20th Century, Naga tribe, Nagaland, India.
