Carved hardwood Shiva Gangaur statue, southern Rajasthan, India. Rosewood. Late 19th century.
These Shiva statues are given as votive offerings during the Gangaur festival. Historically, Gangaur figures were made of wood or clay, carved into the semblance of Shiva and often painted. Modern figures may be made from a range of materials.
