Rare pair of single piece, rigid, shaped silver anklets. Very high grade silver. Early 19th century, from Kerala, southern India. These anklets show considerable wear and have a lovely worn patina commensurate with their age.
Designed to be worn over the foot rather than around the ankle itself, they serve to lengthen the leg and draw attention to a graceful foot. Anklets such as these were often worn by dancers.
