From the Gia-rai people of the central highlands, Vietnam. Woven in one single, continuous band of heavy duty cotton on a back strap loom, the ground of this textile is black, with an asymmetrical border down one side of blue, red, orange, yellow, purple, black and white and three finer stripes of red and white and green and white breaking up the black. The weaving appears simple but is actually very complex as the tribal motifs that run through the white band appear on the front side of the cloth but not on the reverse. A heavy twinned fringe completes the weaving.
Late 20th century, in excellent condition.
Measurements: 300 cm in one continuous length, not including the fringe. Add another 36 cm for both fringes. Width 51 cm.
