Traditional Tunisian silver ornament or pendant. Shaped with applied twisted wire borders, small bosses and larger domed ornaments. Three bails at the top, or if the pendant is reversed, these may have held dangles, chains or other ornaments while the main pendant was suspended solely by three cords. High grade silver, 19th century. Dents, distortions and wear indicate considerable age.
Three tubular fittings at the back indicates that it was once probably a component of a larger, more ornate necklace or headdress.
The silver wire that is twisted through two of the tubes are original at time of purchase (although not original to the piece) and probably once held dangles of some description. I have left them intact - the y can be retained or removed, depending on how the piece is to be worn.
Suitable as men or women's jewellery
