The dorje, also known as the vajra, is a Buddhist symbol of protection and compassion. It is the symbol of Amidogoshi, the Compassionate Buddha, and is often found in his right hand to signify the destruction of ignorance (the bell, symbolising the attainment of wisdom, is held in the left).
