



Vintage Mayan Tzute or ceremonial cloth. Chichicastenango, Guateman highlands. Circa 1970. Handwoven on a backstrap loom in one long continuous weave, interrupted with a band of selvedge which has then been joined by a thick band of embroidery to form a wider textile.
The Tzute is a multi-purpose rectangular cloth used as a head covering, shoulder wrap or to cloth to wrap sacred objects.
Vintage Chichicastenango textiles are considered to be be culturally significant, complex and visually interesting. They are woven by the K’iche’ and worn by the Maya people of Guatemala.Measurements: width 62 x length 67 cm.
