Vintage Tibetan Resin Necklace

A unique, long statement necklace crafted from old Tibetan resin beads. Finished with sterling silver. 

These beautiful beads are typical of vintage Nepalese and Tibetan jewellery. Mixing resin with amber dust is an old technique in Tibet as pure amber was (and is) very expensive, and often only made its way to the Himalayas via indirect trade. Our beads date to the 1930's and were collected by Bernard Heaphy, founder of Kashgar, in the 1980's. They range in colour from a rich orange to brown and change colour depending on the light they are viewed in. The yellow and red beads may be Bakelite.
